Her Pearl (March 30, 2009)

Nobody knows the treasure
Buried within the coarse outer shell
Hid from the outside and safely within
She doesn’t show herself to many

Nobody sees the tumbling
The scars aren’t created without pain
Yet we never see it all as it happens
But know that it’s always there

Nobody has answered the question
Can the outer shell become smooth
Or are the scratches necessary
To contrast the pearl’s beauty?

Nobody feels what she’s felt
But everyone feels an interpretation
If we knew what it took to be her
Who could survive the churning

Nobody sees her from the inside
The fools get too focused on the shell
Thinking she’s tough and can take it
Never letting her be who she decides

Nobody tells her what she’s hiding
Looking out into the mirror
Her scratches remind her of where she’s been
Rarely to where she is going

"Nobody" doesn’t suit me
For I don’t look at the marred surface
Only the glowing depths of beauty
Every time I see her pearl
